Looking Forward
Oregonians in Action, OIA, has been a very effective group of very dedicated people who have, successfully stood up to the takeover of all private property in Oregon by ruthless Government mobs. Maine faces the same shameless attack on property owners. I tried to stop it in Falmouth and failed. Every dirty trick that one could Imagine was used on me and anyone who supported the referendum that I tried to get passed. Like the Measures that passed in Oregon, Arizona and many other states, mine was, designed to defend property values. It was called, Just Compensation. It was soundly defeated because The State came after me, along with all of the hundreds of attorneys in Falmouth and Portland who worked for Lancaster’s law firm and other like-minded people who felt they would benefit by land theft, with everything they had! Remember, the town had been taken over by Socialists who felt as the U.S. Government now feels, that NOTHING should be owned by individuals and by taking it from private ownership they will benefit in some way. Now, the property owner in Maine has absolutely NO protection. Had my Referendum passed I could have gone after the Town of Falmouth for demonizing and devaluing my land and holdings, plus collected all attorney fees had I prevailed. Right now, one cannot even ask for attorney fees to be reimbursed plus the first offer which is always a LOW ball offer by the Town, is the price where the compensation is measured from. Not subsequent offers made during years of fighting with the Town to develop ones land. Market value is all people want for their land. Not a LOW offer with the threat of years of law suits without the property owner ever being able to collect losses. The ruthless attacks on property owners would have come to a screeching halt had my referendum passed. In States where Just Compensation passed States and Towns alike do not bother to pull these dirty tricks on land owners. Not only can the municipalities be sued, but individuals who hold office or on committees designed to devalue property can be sued as well. I would like to post Oregonians in Action information so Mainers can see what they are missing and the chance they had to uphold their Constitutional, both State and Federal, right to protection of their property values. Not to mention the LIBERTY of the property owners! By defeating the Just Compensation referendum Falmouth land owners really lost!
